Lawyers blocked by police from access to the Supreme Court – Rome, Italy 20/01/2022 (IT/NL)
On friday morning (21/01/2022), a group of lawyers belonging to the Committee for Constitutional Freedoms Comicost, the Sentinel Movement of the Constitution, all ‘Free Lawyers Association and the movement Lawyers Last Line gathered in front of the Supreme Court on Piazza Cavour in Rome.
The lawyers demanded the adoption of initiatives to protect the role of the Bar through the elimination of the green pass for the access of lawyers in the courts.
This measure clearlyl violates Article 34 of the Constitution: “the inviolable right to defense at every stage and level of the process“.
Preventing free access of lawyers to the court means to prevent in fact the defense in the process.
Justice and the right to defense are currently being violated with impunity in Italy.
When the lawyers started to proceed to the stairs of the Palace, to officially deliver this petition to the President of the Supreme Court, the policemen blocked them from accessing the Court!
What are they afraid of? AN EXPLOSION OF JUSTICE?

(Unfortunately the cold rain prevented the lawyers to go uncovered with their official dress. The image of Justice workers in their black togas facing Law Enforcement workers in their blue uniforms would have greatly increased the visual and the awareness impact of the harsh confrontation between Justice and Power in Italy.)
